KPV

  • Form: Lyophilized powder
  • Purity: >99%

Overview

KPV is a tripeptide fragment of alpha-melanocyte–stimulating hormone (α-MSH), an endogenous peptide hormone composed of 13 amino acids. While α-MSH is involved in metabolic function and several biological processes, researchers identified that its C-terminal fragment (Lysine–Proline–Valine) retains many of its biological properties. This fragment is referred to as KPV peptide.

Research Background

KPV was first described in 1989 as the key messenger sequence of α-MSH. Initial studies investigated its potential to reduce vascular permeability and swelling in experimental models. Since then, research has suggested possible anti-inflammatory activity, making KPV a subject of interest in studies related to immune regulation and gastrointestinal function.

Mechanism of Interest

  • Anti-inflammatory effects: Suggested to inactivate inflammatory pathways and reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine release.
  • Immune modulation: May influence immune cells to downregulate excessive inflammatory responses.
  • Intestinal support: Murine studies indicate potential reduction of inflammatory cells and improved gut function in models of bowel dysfunction.
  • Tissue protection: Investigated for its role in controlling localized swelling and vascular permeability.
